HERE. på Vitlycke – Centre for Performing Arts

Hur hittar man dit?

23 Aug. Movie
L’INFERNO (IT. 1911)

A silent movie, recently restored, with surround soundtrack composed by Edison Studio. Director: Francesco Bertolini, Adolfo Padovan Duration: 71’

“Inferno” might be considered the first true feature-film in the history of Italian cinema. It was an unprecedented colossal based on Dante’s Divine Comedy and the famous 19th century engravings by Gustav Dorè. Hordes of bat-like demons wielding sharp pitchforks, legions of white souls floating in the sky, a gigantic fire-eating Lucifer who devours diaphanous and transparent cadavers. Adolfo Padovan and Francesco Bertolini certainly spared no expense for their special effects.
It took them 3 years of filming, 150 actors and extras, 100 sets and an advertising campaign that lasted for over a year.
Edison Studio have now produced a “perfect” soundtrack for the most visionary of all Italian silent movies.
Time: 19.30 Entrance for both movies: 100 SEK

23 Aug. Movie
Director: Robert Wiene Duration: 84’
A silent movie with a newly composed surround soundtrack by Edison Studio. The composition of the electroacoustic soundtrack was commissioned by the International Computer Music Conference (Singapore 2003). A masterpiece of expressionist cinema and the first cult-movie in cinema history, The Cabinet of Dr Caligari takes its inspiration from the most advanced experimental work carried out at the beginning of the last century in literature and art. Wiene’s film is filled with surprising historical premonitions and the expressionist sets sum up perfectly the sense of urban alienation in a very unnerving way.
Time: 21.00 Entrance for both movies: 100 SEK

Wallflower was developed with in-kind support from The University of Aberystwyth and HOME, Manchester, as part of our relationship as Associate Company.

Wallflower premiered at Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival, Groningen, NL on 28 – 30 August 2015.

Quarantine is an Arts Council England National Portfolio organisation.

Memories of dancing alone all night at a party; of whirling across the stage at the Paris Opera Ballet; of silently, slowly revolving with a new lover on a canal boat at night; of a repeated tic – a bodily habit that feels like dancing; of walking alongside their mother; of racing with a dog across a beach; of dizzily spinning children; of weeping and dancing; of hitting the mark for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker… Can you remember every dance you’ve ever danced? Wallflower is a dance marathon, a game that alters according to the players. Like much of Quarantine’s work, Wallflower serves as a form of portraiture. Each night the performers choose what they want to reveal, what story of themselves they want to tell, as they try to remember every dance they’ve ever danced. In the seats around the dance floor, the spectators bring their own histories, understanding and expectations. And somewhere between the spotlight and the sidelines, Wallflower happens.

Time: 19:00 Entrance: 150 SEK
